Hello, my name is Kary Oliver and I am a member of the Delta Class. I was initiated in November of 2015 along with 10 other beautiful ladies! I was chosen by my sisters to hold the position of Scholarship Chair, which means anything involving school or studying, I can help with. To tell you more about myself, I am going into my second year at UOIT studying Criminology with a minor in Legal Studies, and a specialization in Youth, Crime, and Justice. I chose UOIT because the campus reminded me of home, it had a small community feel about it. Unfortunately this choice meant moving 4 hours away from my family and friends. After meeting some of the Delta Psi Delta girls, I decided to go to the recruitment events to learn more about their sorority. I immediately felt welcomed which was very comforting. I am thrilled to now have 34 sisters in Oshawa and even more all over Canada! Delta Psi Delta is more than just an organization. It is more than just a sorority. Delta Psi Delta is a sisterhood that encourages you to embrace your differences while celebrating what unifies us. I appreciate that we share the same values, such as; our bond, along with our education, and giving back to the community. The support and love I receive from every sister pushes me to be the best I can be and do the same for others. No matter what these girls have my back and vice versa. I couldn’t imagine what my university career would’ve been like without DPD and I don’t want to! I am so happy to have the opportunity to call all these wonderful girls my SISTERS!

“Once your apart of the sorority..is it mandatory that you live in the same house too? Not sure how the sorority system works because I’ll be living on res!”. I’m sure she laughed inside because she said that the sororities here aren’t like the movies (I mean I would have laughed at me too). I thought watching The House Bunny, Sydney White, and Sorority Wars had given me a all the knowledge on sororities, but I was clearly wrong (hehe)!
Hi there, my name is Jessica Nguyen and I am one of the most newly initiated Delta Psi Delta sisters. I never knew sororities even existed in Canada, but once I did I couldn’t say no. It’s true what everyone in Greek says, “From the outside looking in, it’s hard to understand. From the inside looking out, it’s hard to explain”. Many of us join for a various reasons, however, my reason was to be apart of something that will aid me to grow, achieve, succeed, and always believe in. Walking into my first recruitment event, I learned that when each of these girls became apart of something like this, it changed them forever. They became a better version of themselves - a person who shaped into who they are truly meant to be. And, for me this is a constant goal I like to strive for - to always be a better person than I was yesterday. Ever since I became a part of Delta Psi Delta, I realized so many things that I don’t think I would have if I hadn’t joined. One of the biggest thing was recognizing my potential as a student, sorority member, and as a person. Without my ever-supporting big, my lovely Gamma gal class, my beautiful family tree, my three SQUAD roommates, my first friend at recruitment, and my 24hr emergency speed dial of sisters, I cannot even begin to explain how I would have immensely grown into the person I am today. As a sister of DPD, I have been shown what it’s like to be loved, supported, cared for,....and the list literally goes on. What’s makes us so strong is our unity. Our unity is our strength. The bonds that you hold onto here don’t last for just university or college. They last forever. We are a group of girls signified as one. I mean seriously, if one girl cries, there’s a 99.9% chance another sister will too. I like to say we are all pieces of dominos because we create a domino effect on each other no matter the situation - when one falls, we all fall. The strength of every sister is what keeps us together. I absolutely love the saying, “We may not have it together, but together we have it all” because it’s absolutely true. When we do philanthropy events such as Multiple Sclerosis fundraisers(our national philanthropy), have mixers with other fraternities/sororities, have study sessions, fill ourselves with our traditional St Louis meals or camp in the wilderness, we do everything as one. I like to think when you become a part of a sisterhood, it’s not replacing your old friends with new friends. It’s adding the new ones, along with your old ones because these might be the girls who will be your future bridesmaids, your daughter’s god mother, your next door neighbor, or your future yoga partner, etc. If there is one piece of advice I’d give to potential members is, if you want it, go get it. No one is going chase it for you. When you’re as passionate for something as I am for this, you do what it takes and give it your all. I literally “throw what I know” (as shown in the pictures) everywhere I go - from bid night to fraternity banquets to vacationing in Cuba. Lastly, I’m not going to say your experience will all be exactly like mine (because every girl is different - don’t believe me, check out their blogs!), but your experience might be something you would have never imagined (I sure didn’t!) and take you on a path that will make you go “Wow, joining a sorority was the best thing that has ever happened to me”. Best of luck, Jessica Hey, my name's Danielle, and I'm a member of Delta Psi Delta! I was initiated in November of last year and I am going into my second year of nursing at UOIT. When I first heard about sororities on campus, I was very interested in finding out more. I had never even thought about joining until I found out about Delta Psi Delta. When I went to the first recruitment event, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. I learned that there is so much more to sororities than what you see in movies. My favourite thing about my sisters is that there is always someone there to talk to or someone that has your back. And I know my twin will answer my calls at 2 a.m or go to taco bell with me. Joining DPD has definitely changed my life for the better and I am so thankful to have these girls in my life!
Hello there! My name is Taylor and I'm a member of Delta Psi Delta. I was initiated in July of last year after deciding that I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something new for a change. Almost one year later, I don't regret my decision one bit. I love my sisters and I love making a difference in my community. Ask anyone who knows me and they'll telI you how much I love being a sorority girl. But, at the end of the day, I'm much more than that. I'm a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a girlfriend. I love ice cream, pizza, chocolate, and wing poutine. I fall asleep in class and I sing in the shower. I'm a typical teenager. So, sure, I may belong to a sorority, but that in no way means I'm any different from all the other university students out there. I was just as scared as everyone else when I attended my first lecture and I procrastinate on my assignments just as much too. The only difference is that I have more sisters than I can keep track of... But I wouldn't want it any other way. My sisters are my rock - my light at the end of the tunnel - and I don't know what I'd do without them
(Some sort of greeting, haven’t really decided on one yet..) -I’m Emily Woodcox, one of the newly initiated sisters of Delta Psi Delta’s Zeta Chapter. I’m from Bath, Ontario, a town so small it’s actually called a village. I’m going into my second year at UOIT studying Medical Laboratory Science, and I’m going to be a Health Sci Orientation Leader come September! My interests include pretty much everything from knitting to astronomy to kickboxing (I don’t actually kick-box, but it’s definitely a skill I’d like to acquire one day). One thing I can’t stand and have 0 interest in is politics-- I know I should be a better citizen and want to be informed, but it’s my kryptonite and I’m too busy with anything else, like focusing on making the most of university! (I’ll take more interest when I’m old. Like 40 or something.)
When I first came to uni, I was overwhelmed with how many clubs, committees, teams, and organizations there are on campus and how I was going to make the most out of the next four years. Trust me when I say you can’t have it all together all the time without a solid support system. I find balance in my four S’s: Substance, Sleep, Study, and Sisters. In other words, eat, sleep, learn, and laugh. These girls keep me sane when I’m stressing over exams, assignments, boys, what to wear, anything. It’s an incredible comfort to know that if I fall, I have over 20 girls ready to catch me. Or if I have a hankering for froyo, I can text any one of them and Bam! It’s a froyo date. I first became interested in Greek life at UOIT when I wrote a post about myself in the UOIT Class of 2018’s Facebook group and I started getting messages from the recruitment chair or president of each sorority, reaching out to me letting me know that if I needed anything or had any questions to contact them. You see, I’m one of those people that never run out of questions (I’m a science nerd, we’re supposed to be curious!), so I ended up talking to the recruitment chair of Delta Psi Delta for a while and we actually hit it off really well! I felt like we’d known each other for years when in reality we had only been talking for a couple hours or so. She was a big part of why I wanted to meet more of the sisters of Delta Psi Delta. Meeting people has always been a big deal for me because I grew up in a small town where everyone already knows who you are from the moment you’re born, so I never had to meet anyone new, I grew up with them. The first recruitment event I went to was Info Night. I met so many of the sisters and they were all so welcoming and fun that my cheeks hurt at the end of the night from smiling so much! I decided to join Delta Psi Delta that night, when I sat in a room full of strangers and I felt at home. I’m not a super lets-talk-about-feelings kind of person, but I adore each and every one of these girls and I know that they would do anything for me and I would do the same for them. These girls are a big part of who I am and they have honestly changed my life for the better. This past weekend the ladies of Delta Psi Delta - Zeta Chapter participated in Relay for Life! Relay for Life is an 8 hour event where participants walk around a track raising awareness and money for the Canadian Cancer Society and the help they provide for those affected by cancer. As a team we raised over 400 dollars and spent the day together hanging out and walking for an amazing organization! Danielle says, "I liked that we all came together for a good cause"! We got to see the survivors walk, tie-dye shirts, get some exercise and so much more! Fundraising Chair Toritse Ikomi states, " Relay for Life is always a great experience. It is a celebration of life for those who have won the fight and those still fighting. It is a very eye-opening opportunity and it is great to do it with people you love. We relay every year in hopes and faith that a cure will be found". Interested in finding out more or participating next year? Visit the Relay for Life Website Here.
Hey all, I am Toritsmugbonemagba Bobbie Almira Uwomazino Ikomi, ya I know right super-duper long name, it is a hassle pronouncing it sometimes, but I am usually referred to as Tee, T or Tori. I am the last of 3 girls and I am originally from Nigeria Africa and have been away from for 4 years. I love being away from home because have gained a lot of knowledge and experience from being half way around the world.
I am also a 20 year old commie (Communications Major) in my final year of university preparing to face the world after graduation. One thing I am happy about is that I am not going to face the world with my own strength but with my homegirls (sorority sisters) by my side. I joined Delta Psi Delta almost a year ago with 5 amazing young ladies, I met 6 other ladies(Founding Mothers) and over the course of a year we have grown and we are now 21 beautiful ladies in total. I have always wanted to join a sorority (I have watched every sorority movie) but I never really knew anything about it and wanted to join based on what the movies portrayed. However, It is so much more than that, more dedication, more love, more philanthropy, more sisterhood and in general more of everything. Even if we don’t talk every day we are there for each other and when push comes to shove we always know we have one another to count on. We are there to push each other to the best we can accomplish and I am proud of everything every single one of them and what they have accomplished this past year. One of the things I love most about my sisters is that we all love to give back to our community no matter how small. We may be really different but we have so much in common, and are never afraid to be ourselves. I truly love my girls, I have learned so many life lessons because of these ladies, and I am blessed to have them in my life. Hey, my name is Yeganeh! I'm in the Alpha class of Delta Psi Delta Zeta chapter! I am currently going into my third year at UOIT and I'm studying Public Health. I love going to the gym and staying fit, but I also love shopping (which I consider a sport). I absolutely love going to music festivals in my free time, but school is my top priority. I hold the position of Social chair for Zeta chapter, which means I plan mixers with other Greek organizations on campus! I never thought that I would be the type of person to join a sorority. I heard about sororities and fraternities when I was in high school and it was never in my interests. I finished my first year at UOIT and I heard about Delta Psi Delta summer recruitment and I thought I'd give it a shot and attend the information night. I remember being so nervous and scared before going and I almost didn't go, but going to that first event was the best decision I have ever made! I learned that there is so much more to sororities than what you see in movies and such; philanthropy, academic performance, and the importance of sisterhood. Joining Delta Psi Delta has been such an amazing experience and I'm so grateful for the relationships that I have formed. I used to say that I'm an only child, but I have so many sister that it doesn't even feel like I'm an only child anymore. I love all my sisters so much, they have changed my life for the better! I've been able to meet so many different girls in different programs which I probably would not have met otherwise. There will always be a sister to call no matter what. We're all so different, but we all have one thing in common: our love for Delta Psi Delta and for all our sisters.
Hello! My name is Camille, and I’m part of Delta Psi Delta’s Beta class! I just finished my first year at UOIT, and I can honestly say that this past year has changed my life. Before I got to UOIT, I did a little bit of research about the sororities that were on campus, but I still wasn’t sure if a sorority was really for me. I went to fall recruitment anyways, just to see what it was like, and I was shocked. I never thought that going to one information night would convince me so completely but, when I left that night I knew that I wanted to be a part of Delta Psi Delta. Being a part of this sorority with all of these amazing girls is the most wonderful, indescribable thing. When I first walked into information night I could see and feel how much these girls loved each other, and becoming a part of Delta Psi Delta was the best decision I’ve ever made. I now have this group of girls that are always there for me – I can talk to them about anything, and I know that each and every one of my sisters love me and support me no matter what. Joining Delta Psi Delta made the transition to university so much easier for me. I moved away from home, to a school where I didn’t know a single person, and I spent the first few weeks meeting people and making friends and then learning the hard way that some people you meet are not people you want to stay friends with. Delta Psi Delta changed my life. I literally always have someone to talk to, someone to have lunch with, someone to like my Instagram photos, and I could not imagine a better group of girls. I do not have the words to express how much I love this sorority and all of my sisters. I wear my letters all the time, because I am so proud of this amazing organization that I am a part of, and I wouldn’t, I couldn’t give it up for the world. They say you can’t choose your family, but that’s not really true. This family, Delta Psi Delta, is one that I chose, and I have never been happier.
